The Roberts Park Fire Protection District’s EMS Division operates under the Illinois Department of Public Health Region VII, and within the South Cook County Emergency Medical System since 1976. Ingalls Hospital serves as our resource hospital for our EMS Program with Palos Community Hospital as the designated associate hospital. We are also affiliated with Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Patients are routinely transported to one of our three closest hospitals including Palos Community, Advocate Christ Medical Center, or Adventist LaGrange Community Hospital. However, depending on the circumstances of the incident and system protocol, we have transported to Loyola Hospital, Hines VA, Ingalls Hospital, Little Company of Mary Hospital, and Hinsdale Hospital.
Our current roster of paramedics includes twenty full time and approximately thirty-five part time personnel, all of whom maintain a high level of education and skills training through required and approved continuing education programs. We also employee a limited number of EMT-basics to assist our paramedics.
The department operates two state of the art Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances out of two stations. They are staffed around the clock with paramedics and are generally accompanied by a fire suppression vehicle. Our front-line fire suppression vehicles are also paramedic staffed and ALS licensed which allow them to carry a full complement of medical equipment to assist our ambulances or to begin immediate ALS care in the event we need to request a mutual-aid ambulance. Additionally, we have two reserve ambulances. One of which is a fully stocked ALS ambulance available for immediate response by call back personnel or if a front-line ambulance is temporally removed from service for routine preventative maintenance.
In addition to responding to calls for emergency medical care, Roberts Park paramedics often participate in public education programs and promote wellness and health care at a variety of community events. The Roberts Park Fire Protection District is also proud of its affiliation with local educational institutions that help students in EMT-basic and EMT-paramedic training programs gain hands on experience through our EMS rider program.
